THE FEAST OF ENGLISH MARTYRS :-

Tuesday 4th May is the feast day of our parish’s Patron Saints- The English Martyrs. These where people executed for their Faith during a period of anti-Catholicism from 1535 to 1679. A group of forty men, women, religious, priests, and lay people were canonized by Pope Paul VI on October 25, 1970. The Martyrs who were canonized were among more than two hundred martyrs who had been beatified by various earlier popes.
Some of the common "crimes" of these people were being priests, harbouring priests, or refusing to support the 1534 Act of Supremacy and dissolution of the monasteries. This group of saints includes some well-known saints, such as St. Alban Roe, and St. Edmund Campion. Many of these saints are recognized on the days of their martyrdom…. "Unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains just a single grain, but if it dies, it bears much fruit." John 12:24. *Join us for the Virtual Rosary on Tuesday 4th May at 7pm as we seek the intercession of the English Martyrs in the Litany of the Saints.
